Welcome to Team Lemonade, a Story of Compassion, Innovation, and Empowerment. Founded by Elaine, a mother driven by her love and dedication for her son Nathan, who was born with Down Syndrome and Autism, Team Lemonade emerged as a beacon of hope and transformation.
Elaine's journey, marked by challenges, learning, and unyielding determination, led to the creation of an organisation that stands as a testament to the belief that every individual, regardless of their abilities, deserves a life filled with empowerment, achievement, and joy.
In 1991, a journey began that would transform the lives of many. It started with Nathan, the first child of Elaine and her husband, born with Down Syndrome and Autism. The path wasn't easy; Nathan's early life was filled with challenges, from learning to speak to navigating traditional schooling. In a world where adequate support for diverse abilities was scarce, Elaine and her husband embarked on a relentless quest for better opportunities for their son.
With years of further education on today's understanding of diversity, Elaine had a new sense of purpose and vision and she knew there was a great need for change within support services that could be delivered in today's world of diversity. She envisioned a place where people like Nathan were not just cared for but empowered to pursue their dreams. Thus, Team Lemonade was born.
Elaine, a novice in business but an expert in determination, started Team Lemonade amidst numerous challenges, including other service closures and the onset of COVID-19. She sought to create an environment where members would be empowered, embraced, and encouraged to enjoy life to the fullest.
Staff at Team Lemonade were chosen for their shared belief in treating Individuals with diversity as capable and equally deserving of fulfilling lives. The organisation flourished, focusing on skill development, social interaction, and positive living.
Nathan’s journey was central to Team Lemonade’s ethos. Elaine wanted to ensure that individuals with diversity, now lead extremely happy and fulfilling lives outside of relying solely on their family support and family environment if they choose. As Team Lemonade grew, it began attracting attention for its impactful approach, changing initial scepticism into admiration and support.
Team Lemonade’s success is rooted in Elaine’s unwavering vision to enhance members' lives. This commitment has led to collaborations with diverse organizations and recognition for Elaine, including being named Woman of the Year in the Tweed Shire area.
The future of Team Lemonade is not defined by specific goals but by a continuous commitment to improving members' lives and helping them reach their potential. From working with personal trainers to partnering with universities and local governments, Team Lemonade is dedicated to broadening opportunities for its members.
